Dr. William C. Slocumb

Dr. William C. Slocumb, owner of Skyway Animal Hospital, received both his Bachelor of Science degree and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Georgia. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University Of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1974. Immediately following graduation, Dr. Slocumb and his wife Anne moved to St. Petersburg, FL to accept a position at Skyway Animal Hospital where he has remained for 46 years.

Dr. Slocumb is a member and past president of the Pinellas County Veterinary Medical Association (PCVMA), and a member of both the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, (FVMA) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

For more than 30 years, Dr. Slocumb has been heavily involved within the community, serving at various times on the boards of the YMCA, the YWCA, and on the Salvation Army Advisory Board. He is a past President of the Kiwanis Club of St. Petersburg and was a long time member of the St. Petersburg  Suncoasters Organization. He has been very active in First United Methodist Church, St. Petersburg serving on and chairing many committees and boards within the church.

During his free time, Dr. Slocumb enjoys spending time with his family and grandchildren. His idea of a perfect fall day is traveling to Athens, Georgia to watch his beloved Georgia Bulldogs play in Sanford Stadium!

Dr. Victor Povis

Dr. Victor Povis is a native of Peru.  He studied at the University of Zaragoza, Spain (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) and graduated in 1971.  He had owned a small animal hospital in Castelldefels, Barcelona until 1981, when he moved to the United States and settled in Florida.

Dr. Povis has practiced with several local veterinarians in the St. Petersburg area.  He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, the Pinellas County Veterinary Medical Association, and the Hillsborough County Veterinary Medical Society.

Dr. Povis has been practicing at Skyway Animal Hospital part-time since August, 2013.

His personal interests include traveling and the opera, but also quiet moments practicing Bhakti Yoga (Yoga of Devotion).

Dr. Roy T. Faulkner, DVM, MS

Dr. Roy Faulkner is a 1971 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Auburn University.  Prior to attending Auburn University and obtaining his DVM degree, Dr. Faulkner attending the University of Florida where he graduated (1967) with a BS degree in Animal Science.

Following graduation from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Faulkner spent two years in general small animal practice in Jacksonville, Florida.

In 1973, Dr. Faulkner entered the US Army Veterinary Corp and served as Chief of Surgery at the U.S. Army Medical Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) in Frederick, Maryland and Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Clinical Investigation Service, Ft. Gordon, Augusta, Georgia.

In 1976, Dr. Faulkner attended the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine where he completed a one year small animal surgical internship, a three year small animal surgical residency and completed a master’s degree in small animal veterinary surgery and anesthesia.

In 1982, Dr. Faulkner came to the St. Petersburg area and set up his surgical practice.  He has acted as the chief staff veterinary surgeon at Skyway Animal Hospital, Park Animal Hospital, Caladesi Animal Hospital and Gateway Animal Hospital.

Dr. Faulkner has a broad range of experience in veterinary medicine, from general small animal practice, serving in the US Army veterinary corps, teaching at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, providing surgical services for the SPCA of St. Petersburg, managing the Animal Emergency Clinic in St. Petersburg, Florida and providing surgical services for multiple veterinary hospitals in Pinellas County.

Dr. Newkirk

Dr. Michelle Newkirk, DVM

Dr. Michelle Newkirk was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio.  She attended The Ohio State University for both her undergraduate and veterinary medicine degrees.  Dr. Newkirk graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1999 with a BS in Zoology and Magna Cum Laude in 2006 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

After graduation, Dr. Newkirk stayed a few years in Ohio working in both general practice and emergency.  She then grew tired of living in the “snow belt” and wanted to find some sunny weather, which led her to move to St. Petersburg in 2012.  She continues to practice in both general practice and emergency medicine, along with working for non-profit organizations.

Dr. Newkirk is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Florida Veterinary Medical Association.  In her free time, she enjoys the beach and taking her dog “Newman” to the dog friendly restaurants in St. Pete.  She also loves to bicycle, cook, and travel.  Her favorite activity in the fall is watching her Ohio State Buckeyes win in football.  O-H!!
